Kamena Gallery & Frames Ltd. is a family-owned business, named after a village located along the Kamena River in Malaysia. The four Wong brothers, who shared a trip to Canada together, decided to incorporate their roots into the name of the business to maintain a sense of home here in Edmonton.
The oldest brother, Willie, came to Canada in 1979 to attend the University of Alberta where his love for painting flourished in Edmonton’s visual arts community. Today he is a well-respected watercolour artist and instructor. His brothers Wei, Kee, and Ting followed Willie to Canada in 1986. Wei found his love for photography here in Edmonton and now travels the world in pursuit of his art. Kee and Ting also share in their older brothers’ love for the arts. “Kee is an acrylic painter, with a photo-realistic style,” says Juli Anne McEvers-Gareau, the Framer and Graphic Designer at Kamena Gallery and Frames Ltd. “Ting is a contemporary artist creating abstract pieces in heavy acrylic. He also dabbles in photography.” Although all four brothers are artists, they share in the responsibilities of operating the business, with Kee and Ting managing the daily operations.
