I had heard about the 'famous' fish and chips from Betty's restaurant, so my wife and I took our son there for his birthday dinner. The exterior appearance of the restaurant was well maintained, and the interior atmosphere was pleasant. The soup was hearty and tasty, but unfortunately it was the only good part of the meal. The portion of the fish and chips meal was adequate, but to put it bluntly, it was the absolute WORST fish and chips I have ever eaten. My son shares the same sentiment. The batter came soggy, and the fish lacked any taste whatsoever. I assume that the fish was battered while frozen and then thrown into the deep fryer - that can be the only explanation for the slimy batter. The mashed potatoes were not real either. The pie was decent, but nothing to write home about. But the cup of coffee was good.
I will say that despite the horrible 'famous' fish and chips, the service was friendly and we were well taken care of. But I would not recommend Betty's fish and chips to my own worst enemy. A hungry dog probably wouldn't eat it either.
