Catherine Carroll is testing new recipes for metallic glazes. They range from a matte black to a copper tinged greyish hue that captures the light beautifully. “I’m really happy with some of these glazes,” Catherine says, admiring the line-up. “I think they'll look lovely in the right application.”
While Catherine admits that she could spend forever with glaze testing, it’s ceramics and pottery that are her true passion. After studying for a bachelor and master of fine arts, Catherine became a potter, attracted to the pliability of clay, and specialized in making teapots.
“They’re the hardest of all pots to make because there are so many parts,” she explains. Over time, customers began to request tiles from Catherine and she transitioned her artistry into a viable business operation as Black Rock Studio.
