“My mum jokes that I’m going to fire her,” says Julie Kell, who co-owns The Brockton Haunt with her mother. “But it’s actually quite comfortable working together.”
It’s also extremely unlikely Julie would sack her mum for another reason: in addition to all the coffees, hot and cold drinks, and sandwiches, The Haunt serves baked goods. “My mum makes them all. The cookies, the muffins, everything, they are homemade and fresh. People love it.”
The only thing not made in house are the empanadas. “We’ve got a guy who brings them in fresh. That’s all he does: make empanadas.” Julie says they are the perfect savoury tide-you-over snack for the customers.
