When Eva Gugala was 15, the last thing she wanted to do was sew. “My mom pushed me to go to the Technical School of Clothing in Poland,” says the professional seamstress, who immigrated to Canada in 1988. “It was very hard for me, because I didn’t know anything about sewing, and I hated it.” Eva even paid one of her classmates to make a skirt for her.
It wasn’t until she got hold of a German sewing magazine called Burda that she stitched together a different story. She used patterns from the magazine to make clothes. “The first time I made my own blouse and I took it to school, everyone asked who made it and where I bought it," says Eva. "That was the moment where I started to like sewing." Like turned into love as she made clothes for herself and her family. As the owner of Sewing Studio in Marda Loop, sewing is her passion as well as her career.
