I am sure that the health care professionals at UHNBC are as good as anywhere but there is something fundamentally wrong with the way in which this hospital is managed and maintained. I have chronic health problems that could be managed at UHNBC but I am getting to the point where I might move due to the lack of care in PG or travel for medical services. A very poorly run facility.
I was waiting for my wife at the main hospital entrance waiting area when something caught my eyes - a mouse! It came from the public restroom area and scurried into the gift shop which, at the time, was closed. About 5 minutes later, i noticed it again, returning to the area it came from. I was not the only one who noticed it! That is something I did not expect to see in a hospital!
Terrible information on the web site. Says xray opens at 6:00? We are waiting here at 6:00. Call someone who says oh no 7:00 or 7:30. Wtf? No way to get in thinking its open. Have to walk all the way to emerge. The oh and great customer service their as well. It was like pulling teeth to get info. Come on people get with the program. Update your Web site. Hire people who care about people. Post your hours.
Hospital policies are extremely outdated. I had a c section, babies were fine with no complications and I was not allowed skin to skin in the OR. They separated me from them for two hours after they were born. From prenatal class and articles I had read, I thought skin to skin even in the OR was common practice. Apparently not in this behind the times hospital.
Bedside manner leaves something to be desired, very little if any information given to Families of their Patients, medications not discussed with us, even ordering a TV was difficult.
Not only does it take hours if you go to emerg., but, when trying to book an appointment for x-ray, it takes forever. I have had to wait as long as an hour.
