Sharing conversations with older generations teaches us so much about life and how different things used to be. We’ve all heard a story or two about the “good old days.” And let’s face it, things have changed. Saying hello to someone as you pass them on the street or striking up a conversation with a stranger isn’t as common as it once was, which is why friendly neighbourhood spots like Giancarlo’s Sports Bar are so important.
“It’s like Cheers in here. Everyone knows each other and everyone introduces themselves to new people when they come in. It’s a hangout place,” says owner Giancarlo Cimmarusti.
He opened up the shop in 2007 for that very reason. Growing up, he worked in his parents’ café on the Drive, making coffee and watching everyone share in friendly conversation, which inspired him to create that same kind of atmosphere years later.
“I’ve always liked the idea of having a coffee shop. I think it’s the social aspect of it. I like dealing with people. I wanted a place where people can come hang out and just really do something I enjoy. Plus, I love coffee.”
