“I try to buy stuff that I love or want to see people wearing,” says Jennifer MacKay, owner of The Block in Gastown. “My guiding principle is that if I don’t love it, I won’t buy it for the store.” Relying on a strong fashion sense developed through years of experience as a model and as a buyer and seller of fashionable apparel, Jennifer keeps The Block’s shelves and racks full of beautiful, timeless clothing for men and women of all ages.
“I have to believe in the quality of every piece I sell,” says Jennifer. “I have to like the people behind the brand.” Jennifer sources all of the clothing sold at The Block herself, so she and her customers can be confident in the quality of materials and design, ethics of the suppliers, and timeless aesthetic appeal of each garment in the store.
