Many years ago, George Plaza immigrated to Canada with only $20 in his pocket. Little did he know he would become a household name and Toronto's number one stop for amazing meats, fresh cheeses and an array of imported products. The Plaza family banded together to come up with the catchy name for the business, Meating On Queen.
In the beginning, George says it wasn’t easy but he pushed through and opened up the shop with what little he had and now business is flourishing. The family that works together stays together for George, and he takes great pride in the fact that the foundation of his business in built upon the love they have for each other.
“This is a family business,” he explains. “My father and my grandfather were butchers, I started when I was eight years old. My four boys and my daughter are a part of this, too. For me, it’s about family – that’s what makes me happy.” Meating on Queen has been featured in The Toronto Star and on Breakfast Television, and George is very proud of the notoriety they've achieved, considering his humble beginnings.
