“We don’t serve coffee here, but customers are always welcome to bring a cup in when they browse,” says The Handy Book Exchange manager, Carol Nelles. “They often bring one in for me. I’ll have three cups lined up on my desk waiting to be drunk!”
This anecdote is a snapshot of what the community book spot is all about: sharing, friendship and talking over coffee, not to mention great books at half the cost you’d pay for them elsewhere!
Laid out like a library with little nooks and crannies for different sections and a separate room for kids, the Exchange stocks every genre you’d find in a firsthand store. “We have 20,000 books. I don’t have a computer, but I know every single book we have on the shelves,” says Carol.
