With over 30,000 titles for rental and even more for sale, Bay Street Video possesses one of the largest collections of DVDs and Blu-rays in the city. From new releases to old classics, foreign films and documentaries, Bay Street Video has something for every movie lover. “If you’re trying to look for something that you want to explore in film, you’ve got to find it somewhere, and I’m the somewhere,” says Michael Bernick, the owner of Bay Street Video.
With so much vying for people’s entertainment, Bay Street Video’s overwhelming selection is sure to remind people of a time when going to the video store was a big deal — and renting movies was something of a bonding experience for family and friends.
“The business is good because what we are doing is providing entertainment for people,” says Michael. “There are people who only buy, there are people who only rent, and there are those who buy and rent. There are people who collect certain things, but still watch other stuff and rent those things, and then there are people who just don’t want to have DVDs cluttering up their home. We’re just happy lots of people love to rent and buy.
Unlike most video retailers, Bay Street Video doesn’t sell its DVDs or Blu-rays online. The face-to-face interaction of customers coming into the store is something Bay Street Video values. Honesty, loyalty and integrity are also very important to Michael, which says a lot about why most of his staff have been with Bay Street Video for years.
